Dearest readers, you may not know this about me, but I was born with the love of magic in my heart. Naturally, I was drawn to things like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Twitches, Charmed, and that one Mary-Kate and Ashley movie where they were younger and witches. Anyway, I have VERY fond memories of watching a cartoon series called Winx Club.
This is a series that came out in 2004 and features a group of best friends that are fairies and battle evil magical beings. Growing up, I had the coloring book, T-shirts, and barbies of the characters. I was a true fan! This being said, I don’t often do research online to see which of my favorite childhood cartoon series are being made into live-action movies or shows, so waking up to see that Netflix re-made this series was a shock to me! That sounds dramatic, and trust me, it was a dramatic moment when I found out! Being a big fan of the characters and story-line, I had very high expectations about this new series and I’ll be honest, it was so good and so worth the watch.
I won’t give away any spoilers but I do want to peak your interest in the subject. The series features all of the iconic main-characters but in a modern way that still stays true to the original characters’ personality. The new version of Winx is darker, more intense, and thrilling. The show itself has a great story-line that keeps the viewer invested into what is about to happen. It, of course, contains magic but also includes romance, fighting, scary scenes that will make you jump, along with lots of self-discovery and friendship. The new series only has one season with six 45 minutes episodes so it will be easy to binge this weekend. If you want to give the old cartoon a watch, it is also on Netflix, so you can get your full fix of fairy friendship. Give them a watch and comment down below what you think. Also include if you have any suggestions for me of things that I should watch next.
