May Bromunity Streaming Guide

Welcome to the first ever Bromunity Streaming Guide. We get it you can only masturbate and drink so much during the apocalypse. If you’re looking for something to fill the seemingly endless hours of the day I have the list for you. Below I am going to provide several recommendations for your streaming needs whether you're a movie buff, a binge master or a casual viewer.

Hot and Bothered

Outer Banks (Netflix)

My first recommendation is Netflix’s Outer Banks, staring a cast of largely unknown twenty-somethings. The show follows teenage outcast John B and his band of miscreants as they go through the trials of finding his lost father, dealing with crazy drug dealers and murderous thugs.

Why Should You Watch?

This Ten episode season is fun! It doesn’t have the best acting, or premise for that matter; however, this show is easy to watch, there are a lot of half naked good looking people running around getting into fights, swimming, and drinking. All the things we’d like to be doing now in quarantine. This show doesn't require your undivided attention. It's easy to be on Instagram or texting or preparing a meal, no doubt a factor in Outer Banks being in the Netflix top ten for several weeks.

Literature Lovers

High Fidelity (hulu)

High Fidelity is Hulu’s gender swap take on Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel, of the same name. We follow Rob, Zoe Kravitz, a 30 year old record shop owner in Brooklyn, as she revisits her past relationships in hope of discovering why she is single and to grow as a person. As we move through the season Rob discovers that growing as a person and breaking old habits is easier said than done.

Why Should You Watch?

Another ten episode season that is crushable. I myself watched the whole thing in one sitting. I found that this series is very relatable to people in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties, the vast majority of us having experienced love, loss, the one that got away. Rob personifies the insecurities we all feel when we are dating, in a relationship or going through a break up.

Throwbacks

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix)

Avatar is an American anime show first released on Nickelodeon in 2005. It follows the adventures of Aang and his friends as they try to save the world.

Why Should You Watch?

Avatar is one of the most popular shows in its genre as well as its era. Beyond that Avatar has emerged as an internet sensation, between reddit, memes and streaming culture, it remains one of the most popular animated shows of all time. Although this show came out when I was in fifth grade, I am still able to take great joy in this show today. Avatar returned to Netflix on May 15, 2020 and has already made its way to most streamed content this week.

Scrubs (hulu)

Scrubs is a medical sitcom released in the early 2000s. It Follows Dr. John Dorian or J.D. and his friends as they navigate becoming doctors. Along the way scrubs deals with love & loss, pain & misery, all while maintaining a light heartedness that resonates with fans of the show to this day,

Why Should You Watch?

Scrubs was a perennial hit on network television during the first decade of the 2000s. It inspired 100s of memes, it’s the source of the fortnite dance, and most importantly it inspired hundreds, if not thousands of people to become doctors and nurses. The witty writing and amazing chemistry of the cast created a super fun and believable atmosphere while always staying grounded in the show’s medical roots, it was routinely considered the most realistic medical show on television. Additionally, now is a great time to jump in on a first watch or a rewatch, and the show's stars currently have a podcast entitled ‘Real Friends, Fake Doctors,’ where Zach Braff and Donald Faison are rewatching every episode and recounting stories from the making of scrubs.

Get in on the Action

Den of Thieves (Netflix)

Den of Thieves follows Nick, Gerard Butler, an Los Angeles Major Crimes police officer as he tries to stop a group of ex-military criminals from robbing the LA branch of the Federal Reserve. While working the case we see Nick's personal life spiral out of control juxtaposed alongside traditional heist planning montages.

Why Should You Watch?

This amazing action, crime, heist movie truly brings life to multiple genres. The movie opens with a five plus minute shootout between the crime team and LAPD. It then proceeds to follow traditional heist movie formats, with twists and turns along the way. This action packed homage to Heat will keep you engaged from start to finish.

Music Lovers

Cadillac Records (Netflix)

Set in 1940’s Chicago, Cadillac Records follows the Rise of Chicago Blues Legend Muddy Waters (Jeffery Wright), record producer Leonard Chess(Adrien Brody) , and singer Etta James (Beyonce Knowles). The movie deals with many difficult issues of the time including race relations in America.

Why Should You Watch?

This movie shows how rough the music industry was back in the day, we get fights, murders, and everything in between. The rise of Chicago blues and ultimately Rock n’ Roll, was a struggle we all know the history segregation and violence in this country and if anything it was worse for many in the music industry at the time. This movie doesn’t hold back many of these dirty details.

Thanks for reading and keep an eye out for more movie and television content in the future!
