As we all know, many movies were overlooked in 2020 due to the pandemic. One of these movies was one that I had been waiting to see since the summer of 2019. If you can’t tell from the title of this article it is “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar”. Many of you are probably like, "wow, never heard of it". And that's the point of this whole article. So, let’s get started!
This movie was originally planned to be released in July of 2020. The movie was written by Kristen Wig and Annie Mumolo and directed by Josh Greenbaum. It features an iconic cast including Kristen Wig, Annie Mumolo, Jamie Dornan, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Phyllis Smith and even Reba! The movie was released in February 2021 and is currently streaming on Hulu.
The plot follows two best friends, played by Kristen Wig and Annie Mumolo, from the Midwest that find themselves going on vacation to Vista Del Mar. The trailer featured the quirks of the two main characters and caught my eye immediately. However, it revealed very little plot so that viewers had no idea what to expect. Without spoilers from the trailer, I was able to appreciate the comedy and unanticipated plot lines. I don’t want to give too much away but do want to emphasize that the movie is hilarious, quirky, charming, and unpredictable. If you love a best friend duo, songs, Midwest accents, Kristen Wig and Annie Mumolo, then this is right up your alley.
The film is up for three awards this year including Best Original Song, Excellence in Contemporary Film, and Best Duo. Please give this movie a watch and comment down below what you think. I promise you will not be disappointed!
